SGMP President’s Message
for 2017-2019 Board

Welcome to the Sacramento Chapter of the Society of Government Meeting Professional’s Website. SGMP is the only organization focusing exclusively on the needs of the government meeting planning industry. We are the third largest chapter of SGMP in the nation and our members span the State of California, many of whom are employed by federal, state, county, and city government agencies. We strive to maintain a ratio of 50 percent meeting planners to suppliers. Our supplier members represent the hotel industry, convention and visitors bureaus, audio visual companies, and other meeting-related industries dedicated to providing the resources meeting planners need to excel at their jobs.

The Sacramento Chapter offers a wide variety of monthly meeting education, where topics include: onsite meeting management, disaster preparedness for meetings, using food as fuel for energy and focus, meeting technology, and ADA compliance, to name a few. Also of great value is the annual National Education Conference & Expo. The June 2018 conference will be held in Norfolk, Virginia.

My vision for this chapter is to grow our membership and for all members to participate and take advantage of all that the chapter has to offer. It really takes a village and the current board members and I are looking forward to working together on this vision as a team.

Come, join the Sacramento Chapter of SGMP and become one of the 130+ local members and one of the nearly 2,000 nationwide members that take full advantage of their member benefits including training workshops, continuing educational contact hours, professional certifications, newsletters, Government Connections magazine, industry forums, scholarships, network of resources, web-based training, and much more.

It will be my honor to serve you as president for the next two years. I am very fortunate to have previously served on the board under Immediate Past President Kit Gonzales' leadership as first vice president the past two years. I am thrilled that she will be around to show me/us the way. In addition, I wish to thank the previous board members for allowing me to grow alongside them, both professionally and personally, and for the friendships we have formed.

The Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) is a nonprofit professional organization of persons involved in planning government meetings, either on a full or part-time basis, and those individuals who supply services to government planners.
